Kentucky, the Bluegrass State, doesn’t get enough love. It is a nature lover’s dream come true. There are falls, caves, mountains (as in Appalachian), lakes, and some of the most spectacular scenery you will ever see. They also have bourbon. Lots and lots of bourbon. (Check out the bourbon trail.) Though not known as a foodie state many of the chefs in the area have found brilliant ways to use this state’s mother’s milk and there are many surprising gems.
Along Old Frankfort Pike:
The most unexpected: Wallace Station
This sits out in the middle of nowhere on Old Frankfort Pike outside of Versailles and yet it is hugely popular. Expect long lines & a small wait on the food. My advice: Grab a beer and sit outside at one of the picnic tables. Must Haves: Bourbon Trail Triple Crown! Inside Out Hot Brown!
